The construction of the Ville-Marie Expressway and the demolition of nearby neighbourhoods fragmented this part of the city. Inspired by photographs and sketches of the late 1950s, the painting below was painted in 1979 as a tribute to an era when modest brick buildings, triplexes and depanneurs represented the neighbourhood before the residents were displaced.
